What is Apple Pay™?
Apple Pay is a digital wallet that allows you to pay for your purchases with an Apple device at participating merchants. To purchase something with Apple Pay at point of sale or in-app, you may use an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus, or an iPhone 5 and above with Apple Watch™. You may use Apple Pay on an iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3 to make in-app purchases.
Most features on the watch will only work if you also own an iPhone. The iPhone acts as a command center for many of the watch's functions. Plus, with Apple Watch, you can make Apple Pay purchases even if your phone isn't with you.
How does it work?
Apple Pay uses Near Field Communication (NFC) to transfer data between two devices. Using a compatible Apple device, you can make purchases with your mobile device, using your fingerprint to verify a purchase. It also works online with participating apps.
Is there a charge for Apple Pay?
No. Simply enroll your Nusenda Credit Union debit or credit card(s) and begin using the service.
Which Nusenda Credit Union card can I use for Apple Pay?
You may enroll your personal debit and credit cards with Nusenda Credit Union. Add your cards manually through Passbook®, or use your phone's camera to capture your card information and follow the directions for authentication.
The card that appeared in Passbook doesn't match my card. Is this really my card?
Apple limits card designs in Apple Pay to one style for each card type. As there are several designs for Nusenda Credit Union's Visa and debit cards, the image in Apple Pay may be different from your physical card. The most important thing is that the card number, expiration date, and CVV code match your card. You will know it is your card if the last four digits on the card are the ones associated with the card in Passbook.
Is Apple Pay safe?
Yes. When you use Apple Pay, your debit or credit card number isn't stored on your phone or given to any merchant. A unique digital code is created specifically for your device. You'll still enjoy all the benefits of your credit or debit card, which include Visa's Zero Liability® Policy, protecting you from unauthorized purchases. With Apple Watch, you may enter a PIN* and, as long as the watch stays in contact with your skin, the secure connection continues. When you take the watch off, you will need to re-input the PIN to use Apple Pay. If the watch is stolen or lost, no one will be able to access your information.
Are my privacy and personal information protected within Apple Pay?
Yes. Apple doesn't store your credit or debit card number on your device or communicate it to merchants, so your information is never revealed – not your name, card number, or security code. If your iPhone or iPad is lost or stolen, use the "Find My iPhone" app to set your device in "Lost Mode," disabling purchase capability and anyone's ability to access the device. Or, you can wipe all personal information remotely.
Which devices have access to Apple Pay?
To use Apple Pay, you will need an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus for point-of-sale, online, or in-app purchases; you can use an iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 3 for in-app purchases. You may also use Apple Watch with iPhone 5 and above.
May I opt out of Apple Pay at any time?
Yes. You can add or remove your cards whenever you'd like.
Which merchants are participating?
Apple Pay accepted IconsYou can use Apple Pay at more than 700,000 locations, including McDonald's, Walgreens, Macy's, Office Depot, Firehouse Subs, Petco, Subway, Toys"R"Us, Whole Foods, Office Max, Fuddruckers, Sprouts, and Staples. Look for one of these symbols at the point-of-sale. You may also use it in-app at these online retailers
My new Apple device has Apple Pay capability. How do I set it up?
Before making a payment with your device, you will need to follow a few steps to enroll in Apple Pay and add your existing Nusenda Credit Union credit or debit cards. Here are instructions
What is a digital account number?
A secure digital account number is the way Apple identifies transactions made with your card. Your payment card information, such as the 16-digit account number found on the front of your card, is NOT stored on the device or on Apple servers. This helps to reduce the potential for fraud. It also helps to simplify checkout by eliminating the need to enter your account number when buying items in mobile applications "in-app" or at the point of sale.
Can I use Apple Pay internationally?
Yes. Apple Pay has been designed to enable contactless payments internationally.
How will this keep my information more secure?
By using a digital account number, your personal account information is not disclosed when you shop, which reduces the threat of sensitive data being stored or compromised. If your device is lost or stolen, you don’t need to cancel your card; just request a new digital account number.
How does my Apple device transmit a payment?
Apple Pay accepted IconsApple Pay uses Near Field Communication. When shopping in-store, hold your device in front of a point-of-sale terminal that displays one of these symbols. The digital account information stored on your device will be transmitted directly to the terminal reader.
Are my purchases protected under Visa's Zero Liability Policy?
Yes. Whenever you make a purchase using a Visa card, you are protected with Visa's Zero Liability Policy, which protects you against fraudulent transactions.
What if my actual Visa card is lost or stolen?
Contact your credit union at 505-889-7755 (800-347-2838 outside the Albuquerque area) as soon as possible to report that your card is lost or stolen. You can also go into Passbook on your device and delete that card.
What if my Apple device is lost or stolen?
If your Apple device is lost or stolen, you may contact Apple or your service provider directly to suspend your device. Use "Find My iPhone" to locate it. You can use iCloud to remove your cards from Apple Pay for peace of mind, or wipe it remotely. Also, contact your credit union to stop transactions on your debit or credit card(s). Once you receive your new device, add cards to your device.
If I sell or give my Apple device to someone else, what will happen to the digital account information in the device?
When selling or giving away a device, you should delete all accounts in Apple Pay. Or, you may reset it to factory settings, which will remove all personalization. Your service provider's representatives can wipe your device or verify that it is free of your personal information.
If I lose my device and if someone starts using it to make purchases, am I liable for those purchases?

Will I continue to earn credit union rewards from my credit and debit card(s) with Apple Pay?
Yes. All your transactions will still be eligible for the rewards programs you selected.
What will transactions look like on my monthly or online statement?
Each transaction will be reported on your statement just as you're accustomed to seeing them. Passbook will also keep a temporary record of a few of the details from each of your transactions so you can review them.
What should I do when I receive a new, renewed, or replacement card?
For a card renewal, the new expiration date will be automatically provided from Visa to Apple seamlessly, with no action required by you. For new or replacement cards, you will need to re-enter your information to add the card(s) to Passbook.
What payment information will be on my receipt?
Receipts list your purchases, the amount you paid, the date and location of your transaction, the merchant involved, and the last four digits of your digital account.

Whom do I contact for general questions about my digital account number?
Service for Apple Pay-related questions is available Monday through Friday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mountain Time and Saturday and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. For questions regarding your debit card, call 1-855-588-8655. For questions connected to your credit card, call 1-855-588-8660. If you have a question outside those hours but during regular business hours, call 505-998-2665.
What about my Apple Watch? How safe is Apple Pay on the watch?
With Apple Watch, you may enter a PIN* and, as long as the watch stays in contact with your skin, you maintain a secure connection. When you take the watch off, you will need to re-input your PIN to use Apple Pay. If your watch is stolen or lost, no one will be able to access your information without you or your PIN.
*To enable Apple Pay on the watch, create a four-digit passcode using the companion Apple Watch app. The passcode is used to authorize Apple Pay when you put the watch on your wrist, and its sensors alert it to know when the watch has been taken off. It will prompt you to enter the passcode the next time you put it back on to help prevent someone from snatching your watch and using it to make payments
