State’s Largest Credit Union to Sponsor Financial Education Awareness Week
Financial knowledge and capability is a key factor in the economic success of New Mexicans, both now and for generations to come. New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and Nusenda Credit Union, the largest credit union in New Mexico with more than 150,000 members, are supporting “New Mexico Money Management Week” between August 17, 2015 and August 23, 2015. This week is focused on informing New Mexicans on financial education and providing them with resources to better manage their finances so that they can create stable, financially-secure futures. A series of financial workshops will be hosted by Nusenda Credit Union in order to help educate New Mexicans about financial matters ranging from building wealth, budgeting, credit cards, retirement, cost of college, taxes, and buying a home or car.

A schedule of workshops during “New Mexico Money Management Week” include: a Lunch and Learn Workshop on Money Management at the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce, 1309 4th St. S.W. in Albuquerque, on Wednesday, August 19 between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.; a Lunch and Learn session at the Nusenda Credit Union Santa Fe- St. Michaels Branch, 1710 St. Michaels Dr., on Friday, August 21 between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.; and three “Mini-Money Management 10-Minute Sessions” outside the UNM SUB Ballrooms on Thursday, August 20 and Friday, August 21 at UNM Welcome Back Days.

Nusenda Credit Union financial capabilities program are currently utilized by several education systems, including the University of New Mexico (UNM), Central New Mexico Community College (CNM), and Albuquerque Public Schools (APS). Nusenda Credit Union also plays a significant role in incorporating a financial education component in other educational programs including APS Parent University, UNM’s ”University 101” and “Powering Success” micro-loan program, the City of Albuquerque's “Running Start for Careers Career Corps” program, and more.
