This summer, high-school students can take a free financial capabilities course that not only will help them gain sound financial skills and knowledge, but will also earn credits toward their graduation.

In partnership with Albuquerque’s and Bernalillo’s public school districts, Nusenda Credit Union is hosting the course at Sandia High School from June 6 – 22 and at Bernalillo High School from June 5 – 29.

“As one of the most extensive programs of its kind, this curriculum is designed to teach students the importance of managing finances, while giving them the opportunity to understand how making smart money choices can positively impact their lives – now and in the future,” said Shana Runck, Nusenda’s Assistant Vice President of Community Relations and Financial Capability. “This educational program is just one of the many ways that we work toward making the communities in which we serve better places to live, work, and play.”

Financial Services Career Exploration Course

Nusenda Credit Union created the nation’s first Common Core-aligned financial capabilities curriculum in its home state of New Mexico. It goes beyond basic financial knowledge by providing students with tools needed to make educated financial choices and positively influence financial behavior. Activities include creating financial plans, as well as learning how to effectively manage money and how to become a knowledgeable financial consumer.
