Partnership with CNM offers dual credit, chance for paid internships
For the fifth year, Nusenda Credit Union is inviting metro area high-school students to take its free Financial Service Career Exploration course, which offers dual-credit hours at their high school and at Central New Mexico Community College, all while obtaining job skills and real-world experience from industry professionals.
Nusenda’s Financial Service Career Exploration course not only helps students to learn about career pathways in the financial service industry, it also helps them gain personal finance skills to manage their finances - such as creating a budget, making a savings plan, managing credit, and more. Once students complete the course, they are eligible to apply for a paid internship with Nusenda Credit Union and receive a compensation of more than $9 per hour, along with additional high school and college credit.
“At Nusenda Credit Union, we strive to go above and beyond to ensure that all New Mexicans receive a comprehensive financial education,” said Shana Runck, Nusenda’s Assistant Vice President of Community Relations and Financial Capability. “As one of the most extensive programs of its kind, this financial capabilities program is designed to teach students the importance of managing finances while giving them the opportunity to gain on-the-job training and earn competitive hourly pay.”
To date, 150 students have taken the Financial Services Career Exploration course. Sixty-one graduates have become paid Nusenda interns, and 19 former interns are now full-time Nusenda employees.
The spring 2018 course runs from Feb. 5 – April 29, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 – 4:50 p.m. at the Career Enrichment Center, 807 Mountain Road NE in Albuquerque. For more information or to register, visit www.cnm.edu.
