Financial knowledge and capability are key factors in the economic success of New Mexicans, both now and for generations to come. For the fourth straight year, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez and Nusenda Credit Union are supporting New Mexico Money Management Week from Aug. 19 – 25, 2018. The week is focused on educating New Mexicans on financial matters, as well as providing them with resources for financial well-being so they can create stable, secure futures for themselves and their families.  

 

“Understanding financial matters and making informed money decisions is pivotal to sustaining and growing the communities where we live, work, and play,”said Shana Runck, Nusenda’s assistant vice president of community relations and financial capability. “With our education programs and community outreach efforts, we strive to help we strive to help our fellow New Mexicans build a strong financial foundation for their families, which in turn improves the economics of our state.”

 

Nusenda Credit Union also plays a significant role in providing financial education tools to community partners:

  • $martPath, a no-cost, interactive, award-winning online financial education teaching resource geared for elementary-age students.
  • Albuquerque Public Schools’ Family Engagement Collaborative, which helps families navigate the educational process and provides personal growth. Nusenda hosts a financial literacy program component.
  • The University of New Mexico’s Powering Successmicro-assistance program, which provides financial options for college students that have urgent funding needs due to unexpected life emergencies such as the loss of a job, unexpected medical costs, or transportation expenses.
  • An award-winning Financial Services Career Explorationdual-credit course for high-schoolers that provides career pathways in the financial services industry, and helps them gain personal finance skills.
  • A new Center for Financial Capabilityat the University of New Mexico, where trained students talk to their peers about budgets, building credit, and timelines for loans, grants, and scholarships.
  • In-person and online financial workshops, financial health analytics tools, financial counseling services and money management tools – all at no cost to members and the public at-large.

 

Nusenda members can take advantage of services that were created to efficiently manage their financial activity. Along with checking, savings, money market, share certificates, and holiday/vacation club accounts, members can receive complimentary, customized credit management reviews and debt consolidation counseling. Additionally, Nusenda offers self-service tools like online budgeting programs, account alerts, account and person-to-person transfers, digital wallets, and online bill payment service.
