Phone scams have been reported for the 505 Area Code from phone numbers posing as various computer “Support Departments”.

Suspicious phone calls or voicemails should be treated with caution. Companies such as Apple and Microsoft will never call a user asking for personal information. Please use these tips to learn how to protect your personal information.

  • Always verify a caller's identify before you provide any personal information.
  • Never give money or personal information to someone with whom you don't have ties and did not initiate contact.
  • If you get an unsolicited call from someone claiming to be from Apple or Microsoft, hang up and contact the company directly.
  • If you believe your account was hacked, change your password yourself on a secure device.
  • Consider enabling an extra layer of security, such as two-factor authentication, for additional protection. Two-factor authentication is offered for many account and device types and allows you to choose a PIN or security question in addition to your password.
