July 28, 2025 - For Immediate Release
Albuquerque, N.M. – For the twelfth consecutive year, Nusenda Credit Union has been named a top financial institution by Albuquerque Journal readers, earning runner-up for Best Credit Union and winning Best Bank this year.
“We’re incredible grateful to our members for placing their trust in Nusenda,” said Michelle Dearholt, President and CEO of Nusenda Credit Union. “This award reflects our team’s intentional, member-focused approach and the meaningful relationships we’ve built throughout the communities we serve. Thank you for the continued recognition!”
Nusenda remains committed to improving the financial well-being of its more than 280,000 members by offering personalized financial guidance, accessible education, and tools that empower members to build stronger financial futures. Last year, more than $8.8 million was returned to members through Earn Your Return, Community Rewards, and Business Debit Card Rewards. Through The Power of Change program, members also allocated nearly $10 million to pay down debt, increase savings, or support charitable causes.
Beyond banking, Nusenda continues to make meaningful investments in the communities it serves. In 2024, the Nusenda Foundation awarded $700,000 in grants to 72 organizations through its Community Rewards program and supported schools and nonprofits through in-kind resources, financial education, and strategic partnerships totaling more than $2.4 million. More than 5,900 volunteer hours were donated by employees through programs like Adopt-A-Cause and Community Day, and over 1,000 toys were collected and distributed to children served by UNM Children’s Hospital, Jardin de los Niños, and El Paso’s Children’s Miracle Network.
Additionally, through its relationship-based community lending model, Nusenda’s Microloan Program funded $472,000 in loans to help aspiring entrepreneurs without access to traditional financing, fostering economic opportunity across New Mexico.
