Credit Score FAQs

What is a credit score?

A credit score is a three-digit number often used by lenders, along with your credit report, when they decide whether to do business with you. Your credit score can affect the interest rates you can get, what lending and credit options you’re offered, your approval when renting a place to live, and if you’re eligible for certain jobs. The higher the score, the more you are considered credit worthy to a lender. Your credit score is calculated from information in your credit report and considers whether you have been making on-time payments, use of revolving debt (like credit cards), length of your payment history, and other such factors.

What is a credit report?

A credit report is a detailed report of a person’s credit history. It contains information like your history of paying loans and the status of your credit accounts. It gives a view of your financial habits, like how often you make payments on time, how much credit you have, and how much credit you’re using. A credit report can also contain public record information, like bankruptcies, judgments, and liens that give lenders an idea of your obligations and financial status. Lenders can use credit reports to make lending decisions, like if they will loan you money, whether you continue to meet the required terms for your account, or what interest rates they can offer you.

Will using the Credit Score tool impact my credit score?

No, the Credit Score tool regularly makes “soft” inquiries against your credit profile to provide up-to-date credit information. These soft inquiries are not connected to an application for new credit, so it does not impact your credit score. If you make the decision to apply for a loan based off a Credit Score personalized recommendation, your credit will be pulled, and it will have a minor impact on your credit score.

Is there a cost to use the Credit Score tool?

No, the Credit Score tool is offered at no-cost to Nusenda members because we want to ensure that our members have the tools they need for financial well-being.

How often does my credit score get updated?

Credit scores will automatically update every seven days. You also have the option to refresh your credit score manually every 24 hours by clicking on Refresh Score.
