Darden Restaurants announced on Aug. 22, 2018 that as many as 567,000 customers at Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen restaurants in 23 states may have had their credit card numbers and other payment information compromised.

According to the Orlando Sentinel and a company-issued statement, the “cyberattack incident” involved point-of-sale machines that had been a part of Cheddar’s before Darden bought the restaurant chain in April 2017. That system was permanently disabled and replaced by April 10, 2018 as part of its integration process.

Guests who visited Cheddar’s between Nov. 3, 2017 and Jan. 2, 2018 in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin may have been affected.

Those who think they may have been affected can access identity protection services at no charge, according to the statement. They can also call 888-258-7280 to speak to a representative Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. ET, or visit a dedicated website.

Company officials are working with federal law enforcement and are fully cooperating with their investigation. At this time, the company says there is not an indication that the stolen information is being misused.
