Albuquerque Journal Names Nusenda Credit Union the No. 1 Top Workplace

Nusenda Credit Union was named by its employees as the Albuquerque Journal No. 1 Top Workplace (large business category). The credit union is one of only seven companies consistently ranked since the award began nine years ago. It is the first time Nusenda has been ranked No. 1 in its category. Nusenda employees who participated in the survey for the award said they felt valued and that they were put first during the pandemic, that they are appreciated for what they contribute to the workplace, and that leadership cares for their well-being. Others commented they feel they are making a genuine contribution to the communities they serve.

“We thank our employees for this recognition, and are proud to be among an outstanding group of 52 New Mexico businesses recognized for going the extra mile to take care of their employees and the communities we serve,” said Nusenda President/CEO Joe Christian. “Our workplace culture focuses on doing the right thing, at the right time, for our membership, especially so in light of the pandemic.”

Nusenda is also the recipient of the Meaningfulness Award. Recipients of these special awards were chosen based on outstanding scores for employee responses to specific survey statements.

“We’re grateful for our employees’ innovative nature, their resiliency, and for embracing uncertainty throughout 2021,” Christian added. “We will continue to strive to support our Nusenda family in their personal and professional journeys.”

Survey results are collected by Energage. Energage manages the employee surveys to evaluate employers on delivering a positive workplace culture and cultivate employee engagement. According to the Albuquerque Journal, surveying for this year’s award began in December 2019. In all, 886 public, private, nonprofit, and governmental employers in the state were invited to have their employees take the survey.

Combined, the companies surveyed 13,124 employees; questions were focused on alignment, coaching, connection, engagement, leadership, performance, and basic company information such as pay, benefits, work/life flexibility, and training.

Nusenda Credit Union employs more than 600 New Mexicans. It hired 156 new employees in 2020 and continues to expand its workforce in 2021 to support its growing presence across the state, including its first branch in Las Cruces that opened in July.

The credit union is committed to making a positive impact in the communities it serves through programs like Community Rewards®, Nusenda Co-op Capital microloans, and awards to Financial Education Innovators. Last year, Nusenda donated almost $1.3 million to communities and people across the state. Learn more at nusenda.org/impact.
