Nusenda Credit Union recently partnered with KOAT-TV for two annual drives aimed at collecting books and school supplies to support New Mexico’s youth. The campaigns received
tremendous support, with contributions pouring in from Nusenda members, staff, and other supporters across the state.
Throughout July and August, Nusenda encouraged people to donate new or gently used books to Nusenda branches and to raise money for much-needed school supplies for New Mexico’s students. This year, more than 22,500 books were collected, along with
$2,200 in donations to purchase additional books, and more than $2,000 was donated to purchase school supplies.
Nusenda President and CEO, Joe Christian, expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “The book and school supply drives are just a few of the many ways our outstanding Nusenda team puts their passion for community into action.”
“A huge thank you to all involved and the Nusenda people! All the books will find new homes and will bring smiles and opportunities to thousands of children,” said Kathy Chillton, Director of Libros for Kids. Libros for Kids is a non-profit
gifting program in partnership with the Imagination Library that provides free books to children from birth to age five in Bernalillo and Valencia Counties. As part of their effort to improve early childhood literacy, Libros worked with Nusenda and
KOAT-TV to distribute some of the donated books for this year’s drive.
“KOAT is proud to partner with Nusenda Credit Union on both our School Supply Drive and our Book Drive. Together, we are working to provide New Mexico children with the things they need to succeed in school and in learning,” said Lori Waldon,
President and General Manager of KOAT-TV. “We are thrilled to work alongside Nusenda to make our communities stronger and to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.”
With roots in education, Nusenda understands the importance of helping students succeed and improving academic outcomes, and has a long history of supporting education initiatives. In addition to drives for books and school supplies, Nusenda contributes
to the well-being of educators and students in many ways, including financial support of summer school, teacher loans, educational assistance scholarships, dual credit career exploration courses, peer-to-peer financial education, wellness fairs, and
tens of thousands of dollars in classroom grants annually. Nusenda also gives back through its Financial Education Innovation Award Program, which awards educators and organizations who are prioritizing financial capability in strategic ways.
