Nusenda members and employees support children in New Mexico with a statewide toy drive

December 14, 2023 - For Immediate Release

Albuquerque, N.M. – Nusenda Credit Union recently partnered with the UNM Children’s Hospital and Jardin de los Niños this holiday season to help bring joy to kids in need. Nusenda members and employees across the state participated in the two-week toy drive, donating toys and funds to bring holiday cheer.

From November 20 through December 8, Nusenda branch locations served as drop-off sites, where Nusenda staff and members donated new unwrapped toys for children of any age. Over 1,500 toys were collected this year.

"Every year, our members and staff demonstrate their commitment to local communities through volunteerism and other impactful initiatives like our school supply drive, book drive, and coat drive," said Nusenda President and CEO Joe Christian. “We are grateful for the outpouring of toy donations this year and hope they can bring comfort to families and deliver a little joy to children with health challenges.”

The UNM Children’s Hospital is the only Children’s Miracle Network hospital in New Mexico and serves more than 60,000 kids each year. The specialists at the hospital and various clinics around the state provide the most advanced and personalized pediatric care. "Nusenda has been a huge supporter of UNM Hospital for many years,” said Lauren Kenig, Program Director at UNM Children’s Hospital. “Thank you to the employees and members for bringing together the whole community to make this toy drive and distribution possible. The joy that you spread will reach the entire state.”

Jardin de los Niños is a non-profit organization in Las Cruces that is designated as a Trauma-Informed Care Center. The team provides early childhood education, therapeutic intervention, and comprehensive services to homeless and near-homeless children from the ages of six weeks to 10 years, and their families. “Thank you to Nusenda and the NMSU Center for Financial Capability for supporting our Adopt-A-Family Program,” said Dr. Michelle Adames, CEO of Jardin de los Niños. “Together we are igniting hope, elevating our community, and helping children and families flourish.”

Nusenda supports hundreds of programs and organizations that are working to make a positive difference in New Mexico. In addition to the toy drive, Nusenda gives back through its Community Rewards grants, financial education, sponsorships, volunteer projects, and more.
