DoorDash Data Breach

DoorDash announced on Sept. 25 that as many as 4.9 million customers, merchants, and drivers of its restaurant meal delivery service may have had their credit card numbers and other payment information compromised.

DoorDash announced on Sept. 25 that as many as 4.9 million customers, merchants, and drivers of its restaurant meal delivery service may have had their credit card numbers and other payment information compromised.

According to Entrepreneur and a company-issued statement, DoorDash officials became aware of unusual activity involving a third-party service provider. Security experts confirmed that some data was accessed on May 4, 2019.

DoorDash users who joined the service after April 5, 2018 are not affected.

The type of user data accessed could include names, email addresses, delivery addresses, order histories, phone numbers, as well as "hashed and "salted" passwords — a form of rendering the actual password indecipherable to third parties.

The last four digits of payment cards, the last four digits of bank account numbers and driver's license numbers may have also been compromised. However, full card numbers, CVV numbers, or full bank account numbers were not accessed.

DoorDash officials state they are reaching out directly to users who were affected. Additionally, more data security layers have been added to the company's databases. For added protection, company officials are recommending that users change their passwords.

Customers, merchants, and Dashers (delivery drivers) can call 855-646-4683 24/7 for more information.
