Hundreds of Nusenda employees volunteer for seventh annual “Community Day”

October 10, 2023 - For Immediate Release

Albuquerque, N.M. – Nusenda Credit Union employees celebrated today’s federal holiday by engaging in volunteer work statewide for their seventh annual Community Day. Over 450  employees participated, volunteering over 1,600 hours at a total of seven projects located across Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Socorro, and Taos.

“Nusenda is committed to making a positive difference in the communities we serve,” said Nusenda President and CEO Joe Christian. “Volunteerism is a core value of the Credit Union, and we are passionate about providing opportunities for our employees to make a tangible impact in the places they live and serve. We are greatful to our employees for giving back, and are appreciate our partners for such meaningful collaboration.”

The focus for Community Day this year was all about supporting New Mexico’s Higher Education partners. Employees volunteered across the state with seven partners:

  • Central New Mexico Community College Foundation
  • New Mexico State University
  • New Mexico Tech
  • Santa Fe Community College
  • University of New Mexico
  • University of New Mexico Hospitals
  • University of New Mexico Taos

“On behalf of CNM, we’re extremely grateful that Nusenda would choose to support our students in need for their day of service,” said Nireata Seals, CNM Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Success. “Nusenda’s generous offer to gather and donate more than 100 bags filled with toiletries, diapers and other useful goods to stock our Food Pantries on Main, South Valley and Westside campuses is heart-warming. These donations, which are distributed free of charge at our Food Pantries, provide some much-needed relief to our students and their families who face significant financial challenges as they try to persist in their education and goals for a better life.”

In addition to Community Day, Nusenda supports New Mexico’s communities through sponsorships, grant funding through their Community Rewards program, financial education initiatives, and many volunteer opportunities for employees. Each year, Nusenda also provides employees with 16 paid volunteer hours each to support initiatives they care about. In 2022, Nusenda gave more than $1.8 million in grants and sponsorships to support organizations addressing critical, statewide needs.
